Typographic-ky Movie & TV Posters by Jerod Gibson

Y-E-S. I was instantly drawn to these film and TV posters from artist Jerod Gibson when I recently spied them over at Society6. And that is not just because they look great--my feelings, admittedly, are largely driven by the fact that he clearly did not create art for Episodes 1 - 3 of Star Wars in his series (which he's calling "37 Posters.")

And that, my friends, is the mark of a true artist.

He's got loads more. How many of the movies/TV shows can you name below?

(Pssst: If you need a hint, check here.)

P.S. Take a peek at an interview I did over at Felt & Wire this week about my feelings on the future of paper and why Brooklyn is more bad-ass than Manhattan. Here's part one and part two.

I know. I'm completely famous.

Happy long weekend, y'all!

Can you name this NYC neighborhood?

Here's a hint: it's a nabe that usually doesn't feel very inspiring. At least not to me. But as I was walking around it yesterday, it sort of whispered to me--and suddenly it made my camera wake up wake up wake up (which is weird because my camera is actually somewhat on the fritz) (I know! I can't even deal; let's don't discuss it).

Do you recognize this neighborhood?

I'll give 100 points to the person who can name it correctly. And whatever, maybe I'll throw a prize in there, too.

Leave a comment and let me know!

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

With all due respect to the West 4th subway station (where I've found gems like these), the Delancey Street/ Essex stop on the Lower East Side always seems to entertain me with its cheerful little notes and made-you-look graffiti.

I've eyeballed this particular one for a long time, and it used to have the "St" intact on the "street" portion of the sign with the words "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" scribbled beneath it (a nod to the Junior-Senior song). The first time I saw it, I was bummed not to have my big mama camera on me so I could snap a decent pic. And when I encountered it on the downtown platform again last night, I saw that--as all graffiti does in the city--as all EVERYTHING does in this city--it had since been tweaked and changed.

I may not have gotten an amazing photo of it. And yes, it now just reads "Dance reet" (meh). Nevertheless, it still made me smile to think that I was on Dance Street. Because I won't lie: I would TOTALLY live there.

A Peek at Lost iPhone Photos

Sometimes you discover things when you're suddenly faced with a window of found time.

Mine came last week in the waiting room at the dentist. The hygenist came in to inform me that she was running 10 minutes late, and I was promptly left alone with a stack of old sports mags and gingivitis brochures.

Naturally, I broke out my iPhone.

I've been taking pics on my now-regular morning walks on ye olde Brooklyn Bridge (more on that in an upcoming post) and wanted to see if I captured anything any good that day. (I did.) And since I had the time, I started scrolling. And scrolling some more. What I found was that, in the year and a half lifespan of my phone, I've taken some interesting pics--some of which I'd completely forgotten about. Wanna see?

A mannequin in one of our closets at work that, ahem, surprised me while I was walking by.

Dual-colored tights on the subway. (Fashion do or don't?)

Crazy-cool tea the first night I spent in China last year.

Two dudes on Court Street in Cobble Hill.

Pound cake for a food project I'm working on. (More on that one later, too!)
