Flea Food Faves

L-o-v-e-d the Dutch stoopwafel from The Good Batch--and believe it or not, I had never heard of "baker's scraps" until I met theirs at this weekend's Flea (which is probably a good thing, considering my sweet tooth tends to get severely out of control).

I absolutely could not bring myself to buy a bag of the Early Bird Granola--and that was because I would have eaten the whole thing in one sitting. Must.practice.restraint. MUST.PRACTICE.RESTRAINT.

Good olive oil makes my world a happy, happy place. Sigh, Salvatore Brooklyn. You make my face, and my stomach, smile.

Illustrator Claudia Pearson

You can't go wrong with an illustration by the charming Claudia Pearson. I first came across her work last year on a postcard handed out at the Brooklyn Flea, and had the pleasure of chatting with her in person

at this weekend's market in Fort Greene (my friend Zovig ended up buying one of these). I especially like her "Buy Local" tea towel--it even includes a nod to my favorite Brooklyn pickles, Rick's Picks. Deeeeelish.

R.I.P. M.J.

Just a couple of randoms I noticed over the weekend (too bad I couldn't take photos of the "Wanna Be Startin' Something?" I heard on repeat in basically every corner of the nabe).

Wooden Tops

So I'm throwing a baby shower soon for my sweet sister-in-law. And as the date of the shower (and her due date) approaches, my first-time-being-an-aunt status has made me suddenly aware of some of the more cool-ass toys that are out there in the world.

I've especially been noticing several different kinds of wooden tops. And I have to tell you: some of them are so gorgeous, Aunt Amy might have to just buy a few for herself. (You know, in case the baby wants to come up and hang in Brooklyn or whatever.) Check 'em out.
