I thought I'd explain a bit more about what's going on with this little redesign.
Mostly, I just needed a change. Perhaps you did, too?
I might miss the three columns of my old site, but I think this traditional format is a little more reader-friendly when it comes down to it.
The logo was designed by my lovely friend, the very talented Lisa Cleary. I really dig what she did with it--it's a nice nod to the old look with a bit of a twist. And the swooshy dash! So fun!
My very limited Illustrator skills and I created the dash-y background. I know. Fancy.
Here's some answers to questions that keep coming up (but bear with me as I learn this new format):
Where are we?
Squarespace. I switched because I really like how much control I get here, design-wise. I pay a small monthly fee as opposed to the free site I had on Wordpress.com, but I think it's worth it. It's nice not to be stuck in a template anymore.
How can I get updates through my news reader?
Please use the URL http://mdashing.squarespace.com. I'm not sure why iGoogle (etc.) won't pick up the normal URL right now, but I will let you know if and when it's updated.
How can I get updates via email?
I'm still trying to figure that out. Stay tuned!
How are you?
I'm doing just fine. How about you?
My apartment and I spent a lot of quality time together over the weekend. I cleaned and arranged and rearranged and cleaned again and made it as fancy as possible. And it's all because Guerrin and Mat are featuring a tour of my pad on Apartment Therapy sometime this week. (!)
Because I am who I am, I certainly made it a slightly stressful situation for myself. I know how snarky the commenters on that site can get, and I got nervous that my place wasn't cute enough. And then I got nervous that it wasn't clean enough. So I cleaned my little heart out and cute-d it up as much as humanly possible.
But you know what? I live here. And that means that I use things in this apartment. And after I use them, they are dirty/uncute again. So I'd clean/cute them up once more. And thus the crazy-lady cycle continued.
Yet, once they got here and gushed away over the decor, the cuteness, and the cleanness, I felt tons better. Mat took pictures and Guerrin took notes and I finally took a deep breath.
I can't wait to see the results. I'll give you a heads up when the post goes live. Wish me luck!
And P.S. I know! New site! What do you think?
I've made it back to Brooklyn! I've made it back to Brooklyn! But before I left Charlotte, I got a chance to visit the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, which opened up almost a year ago. GREAT collection--we really enjoyed it. And since you can't take photos inside, we made our own art in the reflection of artist Niki de Saint Phalle’s Firebird sculpture outside.
